Visiting Manresa’s Recycling Plant to learn how the waste is managed in our town

29 October 2022 - We have visited Manresa’s Recycling Plant. We have seen the rubbish landfill sites and the compost production from organic waste as well as the separation process of all the recyclable waste. It has been very informative.

Using scratch to simulate how a wind turbine generates electrivity

November 2022 - Our students have also programmed a simulation with scratch the energy produced by a wind turbine. They can simulate the speed of the wind and how much energy is produced.

Building models of mechanisms to generate renewable energy.

October 2022 - Elaboration of models of mechanisms to generate renewable energy. The students chose what type of mechanism they wanted to make. Some have made a wind generator out of cardboard and a motor that turns on an LED inside a house. Others have made a water pump that moves water with a solar panel. Others have chosen to make a solar panel that turns on an LED from old CDs. It has been difficult, but it has been worth it to see the wind turbine working or the LEDs being lit from the small solar panels.

Learning to recycle cooking oil to make soap

25 October 2022 - Today we have learned to recycle cooking oil to make soap. We have brought oil from home that we have used for cooking to create soap that we will be able to use, for example, to wash clothes.

We have added caustic soda and essential oil to turn our used oil into soap.

The oil that goes down the sink is very bad for the environment, as it pollutes the water and harms ecosystems.

Today we have learned how to reuse this oil to make something useful and help the environment at the same time.

Erasmus day 2022 - A Campaign to raise awareness of non civic behaviour in the areas around the school

18 October 2022 - This year, to celebrate the Erasmus day, we have created different posters to explain to people in the neighbourhood the need to use the recycling containers appropriately.

Around the school, we have found that sometimes people leave big objects like furniture and appliances next to the recycling bins, misusing the real purpose of these containers. We wanted to report and inform about the situation and for this, we have put up posters on the containers we have near the school.

We hope to see a difference in the use of the bins in the future

Final day in Turkey - Visiting Halfeti, the birth of civilization, sailing on the Euphrates river

7 October 2022 - To finish our mobility in Turkey, we traveled from Gaziantep to Halfeti, on the Euphrates river. Sailing on a boat we could see the Rumkale byzantine ruins and the caves on the river bank. It was very interesting to see the birth of civilization.

We had a fantastic meal by the water and in the afternoon we returned to Gaziantep to say goodbye to all our friends

Fourth day in Turkey - Presentations on renewable energies in our countries, Certificates and fun at the theme park

6 October 2022 - On our fourth day in Gaziantep, we first had a debate with the environmental engineer in the Eco-building about the current climate crises. Then, each country presented information on the implementation of renewable energies in each of our countries.

After that, we had the certification ceremony and we all got our Erasmus Certificates. After lunch we had a great time at Gaziantep’s theme park

In the evening we had a farewell dinner outdoorsm which was great fun as we had really good food and music.

These are our presentations:

Third day in Turkey - Wind turbines workshop and afternoon in the zoo

5 October 2022 - In the morning we went back to the Eco-building of Gaziantep and we learned a lot about wind turbines and solar energy. In groups we built a wind turbine that turned using solar power. Groups had to work together to use the right pieces and make all the electric connections to make the model work. It wasn’t easy and took quite a long time, but it was worth it!

After lunch we went to Gaziantep’s zoo, where we had a very pleasant time.

Second day in Turkey - Learning about Gaziantep cultural heritage

4 October 2022 - Today we dedicated the whole day to visit the city of Gaziantep. First we visited the old city, the castle, the underground caves and the museum of toys. At the Mosaic museum we dedicated some time to learn about the old mosaics. We made one for ourselves by cutting stones and making a beautiful pattern. After lunch we went to Gaziantep’s zoo, where we had a very pleasant time.

First Day in Turkey - Our work on renewable energies and workshops on solar bugs and sustainable houses.

3 October 2022 -  On our first day in Gaziantep we all met in the Eco-building and the environmental engineer introduced the building and the way is completely energy efficient.

We visited the building, the gardens and the solar park and we returned to the auditorium. We then presented our work done on the project since we started the project. All schools explained the activities done in their schools and we stopped for lunch. In the afternoon, we completed two workshops, one called “solar bugs” to learn how solar panels are used to make something move, and the other one to build a model of a sustainable house having to choose the most appropriate materials.

We finished the day by walking to the botanical gardens which are located nearby.
